抛砖引玉 : Trade in a brick for a gem

This strategy, "trade in a brick for a gem" consists in offering something to one's opponent, not entirely without value, but nonetheless appearing to be worth more than it is, in order to dupe one's opponent to cede something of higher value in return.

There are many strategies.

The most ingenious of these is that by which you present not a completely fraudulent object,

but something that is actually similar to the real thing,

to confuse the enemy.

An obvious bluff is one thing,

whereas more effective is to use

a worthwhile target for the enemy. 

PUTTING IT INTO PRACTICE

Zhu Yi Zun 朱彝尊 , fascinated by the fact that the Loquat fruit tree of his Buddist priest buddy gave luscious fruit, but with no stone inside. The priest replied that they were magic fruit, and gave no more satisfying an answer than this.

So 朱彝尊 came up with a plan.

He invited the priest to eat pig trotters at his house.

The priest was sat at the table and saw the servant walk through with a huge raw pig trotter, and barely a moment later come out with the pig trotter already perfectly cooked. The priest wished to know how he had cooked the pig trotter so quickly. Zhu Yi Zun said, "If you tell me your secret, I'll tell you mine".

The priest agreed : "In the springtime, I pull out the stamen of the flowers of the loquat tree, this makes a fruit with no stone."
Zhu Yi Zun : "I'll tell you my secret. The servant who walked through just now left the pig trotter you just saw on the side and came back through with the one he had cooked last night".
